YOU AND I is a short, two-man song cycle exploring the differing paths a relationship can take - from friendship to romance and breakup and grief - or perhaps even hope and a happy ending.
With a soaring contemporary pop-Broadway score, YOU AND I examines how our own identities and relationships must shift in an ever more complex world, and how our outlook on life and each other can change as we do.
Words and Music by Benjamin Ward
YOU AND I was originally developed at Emerging Artists Theatre’s Spark Theatre Festival (formerly the New Work Series) in New York City in November 2023. Following the release of an acclaimed concept EP, it has since also received a staged first-look concert at the Phoenix Arts Club in London in summer 2024, as well as further concert presentations at Crazy Coqs in London and 54 Below in NYC in January 2025. Songs from the show have been performed and recorded by such talent as Bradley Riches (Heartstopper), Andrew Barth Feldman (Dear Evan Hansen), Joe Serafini (HSMTMTS) and Jacob Fowler (Heathers).
TURING tells the true story of Alan Turing, the gay mathematician who cracked the Enigma code in World War II, in turn saving western civilization from the Nazis.
TURING approaches its main character through three parallel timelines– his boyhood, collegiate, and young adult life. With a dramatic score that blends contemporary musical theater with orchestral, jazz, and electronic elements, TURING peels back the layers of a lonely child and brilliant man who faced both unprecedented triumphs and persecution.
Book, Music and Lyrics by Timothy L. Michuda and Benjamin Ward
TURING was originally conceived at the Writing and Design for Musical Theater program at BerkleeNYC. It received a concert reading in Philadelphia, PA, as part of Theatre on the Verge’s New Musicals Festival 2024, where it won 9 awards including ‘Best Musical’ and ‘Best Lyrics’. Following this, the show received a critically-acclaimed world-premier production at Chicago’s DePaul University in the summer of 2024.
